Supplies you'll need to crochet Gastly

General supplies:

With Amigurumi you guage doesn’t matter much. Using smaller hook and yarn will make you finished Piece smaller, and bigger hook and yarn will make him bigger. Just make sure that your yarn and hook fits together and makes a tight fabric so the stuffing won’t show through!

For a smaller version, about 10 cm tall, or 4 inches, you will need the following yarn.

I reccomend Hobbii Rainbow cotton 8/4. This yarn is a 100% cotton and very nice to work with! With this yarn, I use a 2,5 mm hook (or a B-1 or C-2 should work too!). If Rainbow cotton is sold out, I can also recommend Friends cotton from Hobbii as a direct substitute.

  • 1 x black

  • A bit of white for eyes and fangs
  • A tiny bit brown/dark red for the mouth

Now connect the yarn in the front loops that were left behind. Start in the center.

We are now going to work in the remaining front loops to create the more smokey appearance.

I primarily did 2 dc in each stitch, but to mix it up use different stitches throughout (hdc, 2hdc in the same stitch, dc, sc). This will make the smoke more varied in the finished product. To avoid all your layers “clumping together”, skip round 3 and 6 of front loops. To skip the whole round, simply just move to the stitch above the starting stitch, and start crocheting from there, the jump will not be noticeable.

Eyes

Made in rows

Row 1: 4 sc in mr, ch 1, turn (4)

Row 2: inc x 4, ch 1, turn (8)

Row 3: 2sc, (inc, sc) x 3 (11)

To smooth out the edge, make an additional sc in the corner of the eye and ss across the top of the eye.

Embroider a black pupil. Make 2 eyes.
For the second eye mirror round 3 like so instead: (sc, inc) x 3, 2sc (11)

Assembly of your crochet Gastly

Start by attaching the smoke to the body.

Then attach the eyes. I left the outer corner of each eye free to make them look more like they are “floating”. Instead of following the edge, attach only the inner corner and the center of the eye.

Embroider a mouth in a dark red-ish color and fangs in white.
