Gengar is the iconic Ghost/Poison-type Pokémon known for its mischievous grin and love for playing tricks on unsuspecting trainers. With its round body, spiky back, and glowing eyes, Gengar is an absolute must for any Pokémon amigurumi collection.

The design captures Gengar’s playful-yet-spooky vibe, making it perfect for fans who love a touch of Halloween charm all year round. From its perfectly pointed ears to its devilish smile, Gengar will haunt your crochet hook!

Also be sure to check out the first 2 pokémon of the evolution, Gastly and Haunter, to finish the spooky set 😉

Supplies you'll need to crochet Gengar

General supplies:

With Amigurumi you guage doesn’t matter much. Using smaller hook and yarn will make you finished Gengar smaller, and bigger hook and yarn will make him bigger. Just make sure that your yarn and hook fits together and makes a tight fabric so the stuffing won’t show through!

In the recommended yarn below, your Gengar will be about 10 cm tall, or 4 inches tall.

I reccomend Hobbii Rainbow cotton 8/4. This yarn is a 100% cotton and very nice to work with! With this yarn, I use a 2,5 mm hook. If Rainbow cotton is sold out, I can also recommend Friends cotton from Hobbii as a direct substitute.

Legs

Work in purple

Puff-st is used for the toes. To make a puff-stitch do the following: (yarn over, hook through stitch, yarn over, hook back out of stitch, yarn over, pull through 2 loops on hook) x 3, (you will have 4 loops on hook after 3 repetitions), yarn over and pull through 4 loops. Keep the yarn tight when making your next st.

Stuff the leg. It should not be stuffed very firmly, we are gonna shape the top of the leg along the body. It’s correctly stuffed, when you can squish the leg between two fingers, without the stuffing coming out of the open hole.

Assembly of your crochet Gengar

I always recommend pinning amigurumi together before sewing to make sure everything looks like it’s supposed to. For Gengar I pinned all the pieces on, and started sewing from the top. I started with horns, arms, legs, tail and finished with the face details and small spikes on the top of the head.

The horns sit on rnd 5-9 on either side of the head. Stuff before sewing shut.

The arms are placed at rnds 13-18, and I pointed them upwards with 15 stitches between them in the front. Stuff before sewing shut.

The legs are placed at rnds 21-25. Remember to flatten the “thigh” along the body, it should cover up about 8 stitches horizontally on the body. The legs sit on either side of the body and are not closer in the front.

Add the tail in the center of the back on rnds 18-24. Stuff before sewing shut.

The small spikes for the head are placed in a triangular fashion on top of the head. The biggest one in the front and center. The spikes are placed around the mr.

The eyes start on rnd 10 and end halfway onto rnd 14. My Gengar has 2,5 stitches between the eyes. Be sure the eyes are centered compared to the arms.

The corners of the mouth start 1 rnd below the eyes, and the bottom goes over rnd 20.

Lastly add black embroidery around the eyes and mouth. Add black stripes along the mouth to make it into teeth, Also add a black pupil in the eye with a white highlight to give life to Gengar.
