Supplies you'll need to crochet Metapod

General supplies:

With Amigurumi you guage doesn’t matter much. Using smaller hook and yarn will make you finished Metapod smaller, and bigger hook and yarn will make it bigger. Just make sure that your yarn and hook fits together and makes a tight fabric so the stuffing won’t show through!

Metapod will be about 8cm tall, or 3 inches, you will need the following yarn.

I reccomend Hobbii Rainbow cotton 8/4. This yarn is a 100% cotton and very nice to work with! With this yarn, I use a 2,5 mm hook (or a B-1 or C-2 should work too!). If Rainbow cotton is sold out, I can also recommend Friends cotton from Hobbii as a direct substitute.

Assembly of your crochet Metapod

Start by assembling the Metapod body by attaching the tail. The tail sits around the bottom of the body to create the right shape. The top of the tail sits at rnd 13 of the body, and the tail covers the last rnd of the body. The increases on the top of the body is the front of Metapod.

Next attach the ‘spikes’. The back spike sits at the back over the connection of body and tail. It is roughly half on the body an half on the tail-piece.

The front spikes start at rnd 14 of the body with 5-6 stitches apart.

Next attach the eyes. The eyes sit on rnds 7-10 on either side of the head. Attach the eyelid over the top of the eyes. Make sure no white shows through at the top of the eye.

Last step is to embroider black to create the texture. Embroider along the front loops left on the tail and a horizontal line around the tail. Connect lines from the bottom of the tail up to the front spikes and continue around the front spikes. Make horizontal lines between the front spikes at the bottom and the middle. At the top of front spikes, make a diamond shape in the center. Lastly embroider a line from the front spike up to the eye and continue working around the eye. Remember to go between the eye and eyelid too. See pictures for references of the placement of embroidery.
